Summer 'Fun'

Have you missed me?

I've certainly missed all of you.

Life right now is simply...chaotic. No other word can properly describe the craziness I wake up to each day. I'm *hoping* things will settle down by August 1, but until then, don't expect to see much of me in the blogging community. I want to be here, I truly do...I just don't have time.

We're currently painting the new house and it's very slow-going. Before that, we had to figure out what to do with all the furniture and other items which were left in the house (we bought our house 'as is' which means most of the previous owner's worldly possessions were left for us to dispose). We must have thrown out 50 + black garbage bags worth of junk. This woman was a pack rat! Anything which looked remotely decent, we boxed up to include in the yard sale I had last weekend. I ended up making around $750, so it went pretty well. :)

Unfortunately, I still have a couch, two chairs, some dressers, mattresses, and a washer and dryer to find homes for. So I'll be having another yard sale the first weekend in July. Every cent I make goes back into the house, so I figure it's worth it to go through all the hassle a yard sale inevitably brings.

Anyway, back to the painting topic. I debated and stewed and debated some more about my color choices. Here is what I finally decided...it's a very autumnal palette:

Living room & hallway - Autumn Bronze by Benjamin Moore (think caramel)
Kitchen - Apple Crisp by Behr (think pumpkin)
Master Bedroom - Sagey by Behr
Bathroom - Indiscreet by Behr (It's a rather bright red, chosen by Doug, which I plan to tone down using taupes and golds.)
Parker's Room - Cobalt Glaze and Lemon Tart by Behr (He has a WVU themed room...it's bright!)
Autumn's Room - Pink Amore by Behr (It's a very soft, pale pink. Eventually we're going to add champagne and brown paint to match her bedding.)
Basement - Warm Muffin by Behr (think buttery yellow with brown undertones)

I thought the painting would go quickly...but we're trying to get everything as close to perfect as we can before moving in. We're using joint compound to fix every hole, minute crack, or rough spot we can find. Of course, that means waiting for it to dry and then rechecking to see if it needs more goop. We bought the primer/paint combo from Behr, which I really love...but the walls are textured and still need two coats of paint. Plus, Doug and I are terrible at cutting, so dad does all the cutting and Doug and I roll. Needless to say, it's time-consumming.

Autumn's room has paneling, which we're tearing down. That's on the agenda for Saturday. And we're also painting the ceilings. (Not fun.) After all the painting is done...we then start ripping up carpet. We have beautiful hardwood oak floors beneath the 40 year old carpet and I've been told they're pristine...so we shall see!

To make matters even more interesting, the first few weeks we were at the house working, the air conditioning wasn't cooling the house properly. It's an old unit, hasn't been used for nearly two years, and was keeping the house a very 'cool' 90 degrees most days. Agghhh! I called a heating/cooling company and was told there wasn't a drop of refrigerant left in the unit. So, $225 later, it's working like a charm and we're all much more comfortable while working. In my estimation, that's money well spent.

I've also been trying to pick out couches, artwork, light fixtures, shower curtains, curtains, blinds, as well as order supplies for Autumn's homeschooling adventures this fall...it's never-ending.

At the same time all these renovations are happening, I'm also packing up our townhouse...very slowly. Oh, and if that weren't enough, our new Pug puppy (who's name I'm choosing not to reveal yet), will be coming home to us the end of July. We have no puppy supplies! Eeek! I've already decided the food brand we'll be using, but if any of you have any suggestions regarding crates, food bowls, leashes, toys, grooming supplies, training, etc., please feel free to let me know in the comment section. The kids still aren't aware we're getting a puppy. I can't wait to see their faces when they walk into our new house and hear little puppy barks. Yay! It's going to be so much fun.

The kids are doing well and are really enjoying their summer vacation. We're hoping to take them to see Toy Story 3 in 3-D this upcoming weekend. They're still enjoying gymnasitcs classes and Parker has even moved from private lessons to a group setting! That's a big deal for him.

I finished the Harry Potter series. What great books! For years, I truly believed I wouldn't enjoy these stories. I was terribly wrong. I also just completed Dead In The Family by Charlaine Harris (not one of the better Sookie books), and now I'm reading Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater.

By the way, I had planned on including pictures in this entry...but I accidentally left my camera at the other house. Pictures soon though, I promise! And on that note, I bid you all farewell. I hope you all had a very blessed Litha and are enjoying all this beautiful summer sunshine!

sounds like what I've been through the last two years of weekends at the country house. took up carpeting and linoleum and had the hardwood floors refinished, put up wainscoting, painted (painting, if you do it right, never goes quickly). We didn't have to empty the house though, just the garage and storage shed out back. Truckloads of stuff!

Pretty soon life will go back to tracks, Bridgett. It's awesome that you're doing so much in such short time! Take all the time you need and don't fret. We'll still be here when you're back. :)

Kisses and love from us.

PS: I loved reading the HP series for Lucas, enjoyed them a lot. Now I'll start the four Twilight series only for myself, can't wait!

IF there is anything I understand, it's busy. It's never ending, I am afraid. 'Specially when one owns a house.

All the colors sound delish and pretty! Puppy - get everything "kong" the best toy brand out there , are you crate training? It really speeds up the potty process even though it makes you feel bad. If so get a crate where there is just enough room for him to stand up in, turn around & lay down. Most pups will not relieve themselves in there sleeping area, their mothers teach them that from birth. He should sleep in there during his training, the first few nights/week will be long and hard. Of course if you punish do not put him in there, its supposed to be his "safe haven cave". Put a small towel or blanket that smells like you and a warm water bottle. Also sometimes just put him in there when you cant watch him and make sure its in the common area so he is still included. To discipline buy a water bottle and keep it around you at all times, squirt him on the nose with a sharp "NO" and do the same if you catch him in the act then take him right outside. When you take him out while potty training just stand still and quietly let him do his business (min distractions) then pet his head and say good dog....don't scare him with excitement. There is also a "clicker" training tool you can buy, those work really good. During potty training regulate his food, put it down for ten min and pick it up no matter what all he has ate, he will get the hint and eventually devour it, that way you know to take him out very shortly after, otherwise if you just leave it down he will eat whenever and go everywhere through out the day, you want a consistent schedule. The best leashes for training are just normal shorter ones, the most convient for you and easiest after a few months are the ones that allow them to go far (that roll back into the holder like a ruler). I buy nylabones not rawhide, things made out of usa aren't up to standard and have very bad ingredients. Also, the rope toy is good , however only when you are home watching put it up when you leave, those strings on the ends can be lethal if he consumes a lot of them . Keep a box of toys for him that are safe on the floor so he knows where they are, keep the toys that need supervision out of sight. When he bites hold his mouth closed and tilt his head down for a few mins, even the kids should do this. LOL Can you tell I've researched and asked a professional? GOOD LUCK I'm excited for you guys!!!!

Busy, busy girl you are. Glad you have things underway. It will all be well worth the effort when you move in and hear your kids laughing and dog barking. Enjoy the process. I 've done it several times and you kind of miss it when it's gone... kinda.
